Support the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy and Assistant Secretary of Defense for Global Strategic Affairs by developing strategies, policies, and oversight of national nuclear policy, treaty negotiations, and missile defense policy.

Nuclear Missile Defense includes:

  • Supporting START follow-on treaty negotiations;
  • Coordination of interagency Nuclear Posture Review;
  • Coordination of Ballistic Missile Defense Review;
  • Supporting Assistant Secretary of Defense for Global Strategic Affairs as Chair of the NATO High Level Group; and
  • Managing the growing political-military implications of missile defense
